I. Remember Who You Are: Beloved Sojourners

Peter begins with affection: “Beloved.” The call to fight sin does not come to people trying to earn God’s love, but to people who are already loved by God and belong to another kingdom.

• You do not fight for belovedness; you fight from belovedness.
• To be a sojourner does not mean we stop caring about this world; it means this world stops being the place from which we take our orders.

II. Recognize the War: Sinful Desires Attack the Soul

Peter commands believers to abstain from the passions of the flesh because they wage war against the soul. These desires include not only sexual sin, but every sinful desire of the old nature that tries to rule where Christ alone belongs.

• Sin is not a harmless private weakness; it is an enemy laying siege to the soul.
• Resist sin early, name it honestly, cut off provision for it, and fight in the strength of the Spirit.

III. Guard Your Witness: Honorable Conduct Must Be Visible

Peter calls Christians to keep their conduct honorable among unbelievers. The church is God’s holy temple people, and our public life should display the beauty of the gospel before a watching world.

• We cannot control every accusation, but we must not supply the evidence.
• Honorable conduct matters at work, in the home, in the church, online, with money, in sexuality, and in ordinary daily faithfulness.

IV. Seek God’s Glory: Accusers May Become Worshipers

Peter holds out evangelistic hope: those who speak against Christians may see their good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. God may use the faithful lives of believers as one means of drawing sinners to Himself.

• Your good works cannot save anyone, but God may use them to adorn the gospel.
• The person who speaks against Christians today may glorify God tomorrow.

V. Christ, the True Sojourner and Faithful Witness

Jesus is the ultimate sojourner and faithful witness. He lived honorably, abstained perfectly from every sinful passion, was falsely accused as an evildoer, died for sinners, and rose again to save all who come to Him.

• Christ has done what we failed to do and died for all the ways our desires and conduct have dishonored God.
• The Lord’s Table is not a reward for sojourners who have never stumbled, but Christ’s provision for beloved pilgrims who need grace.
