2. Sermon Flow & Takeaways

I. Setting the Table: Where This Fits in the Series
Maturity follows membership: you first belong to the body, then you grow in the body. Growth in Christ is never an individual project.

  • You cannot grow strong in isolation.

  • Covenant belonging leads to covenant growing.

II. The Message: “Him we proclaim” (v. 28a)
Paul’s ministry is centred on proclaiming Christ Himself, not a program, system, or set of techniques.

  • The gospel is not steps to follow but a Person to trust.

  • What message shapes your week: social media, career, or Christ?

III. The Method: “warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom” (v. 28b)
Paul’s method pairs admonition and teaching, given to every believer without elitism, adapted with wisdom to each situation.

  • To warn is to love; to teach is to equip.

  • True maturity requires both correction and instruction in community.

IV. The Aim: “that we may present everyone mature in Christ” (v. 28c)
Paul’s goal is corporate maturity, every believer presented complete in Christ at His return.

  • Maturity is stability and Christlikeness, not independence or self-expression.

  • Aim for fruitfulness, not survival; Christ will present His Bride radiant.

V. The Energy: “For this I toil... with all his energy” (v. 29)
Paul labours strenuously, yet all his effort is sustained by Christ’s power working in him.

  • Christian growth is neither self-help hustle nor passive drift.

  • Real obedience is Spirit-empowered striving in weakness.

VI. Drawing the Redemptive Arc Together
From creation to new creation, God is forming a mature people in Christ through proclamation, teaching, and Spirit-empowered growth.

VII. Concrete Next Steps at Pineland
Growth happens in ordinary, covenantal means: Growth Groups, Sunday evenings, Bible studies, one-to-one Scripture reading.

VIII. Exposing the Idols Beneath the Surface
False maturity hides in control, comfort, status, or autonomy. Only Christ offers the message, wisdom, maturity, and energy we need.

IX. The Engine for Obedience
For every call there is a Christ, He has atoned, given life, powers growth, and secures our end.

X. Closing Gospel Appeal & Eschatological Hope
Look forward to the day when the Bride is presented in splendour. Until then, labour with His energy, resting in His promise.
