2. Sermon Flow & Takeaways

I. What Does It Mean to Be Apostolic? (vv. 42, 20)
The apostles were eyewitnesses of the risen Christ, commissioned to lay the once-for-all foundation of the church. Their authority still stands through their teaching in Scripture.

  • Don’t build your life on shifting foundations like approval, wealth, or works.

  • The apostolic witness still speaks; our task is to humbly receive it.

II. The Marks of an Apostolic Community (vv. 42–47)
Luke sketches the life of the first church: teaching, fellowship, prayer, generosity, daily worship, and witness.

  • Devote yourself to the apostles’ teaching, prayer, and fellowship.

  • Let generosity, joy, and worship shape your daily rhythms.

III. Six Implications of Apostolic Faith Today
Apostolic faith is: Fixed, Guarded, Bounded, Godly, Word-Centered, and Clear. These are essential marks, not optional extras.

  • Resist cultural pressure to reinvent truth; cling to the faith once delivered.

  • Guard one another in fellowship, hold loosely to possessions, and stay devoted to the ordinary means of grace.

IV. Christ the Cornerstone
The apostles pointed beyond themselves to Christ, the stone that aligns the whole structure. Without him, everything crumbles.

  • Don’t build life on self-expression, success, or reputation; these foundations crack.

  • Christ offers himself as a sure foundation, received by grace, not earned.

Conclusion: A Dwelling Place for God
The church is still being built, and one day the temple will be complete: God dwelling with his people forever.

  • The future is secure, the cornerstone will never shift.

  • Rejoice that we belong to something eternal, unshakable, and glorious.
