The Pastors and Elders of Pineland

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5

Kevin Houser

Lead Pastor

I joined Pineland in March of 2017 as Lead Pastor. My role of a pastor is one of spiritual accountability before God for all matters in the church. I am an under-shepherd of the flock and am the primary guardian of the faith, responsible for the teaching and preaching ministry of the church. As an Elder, I am the first among equals and work with my fellow Elders to manage the affairs of the church and develop the spirituality and servanthood of the congregation.

Nathan Klahsen

Associate Pastor of Family and Outreach

I joined the staff at Pineland in 2007 as the Youth Pastor and then as an Associate Pastor in 2013. I am responsible for the church ministry teams that oversee children, youth, students, and families. I also oversee the ministry for local outreach, development of media resources, and participate in the preaching ministry under the Lead Pastor. Email me at

Don Clark

I joined the pastoral staff and leadership as Associate Pastor at Pineland Baptist Church in January 2005. It is my joy to serve in the areas of our foreign missions, the visitation ministry, and our seniors in Pineland and our local community. Email me at

It is indeed a privilege to serve as Moderator at Pineland Baptist Church, along with so many dedicated Christian volunteers.

Although we are one in Christ at Pineland, our starting points and roads traveled are wide and varied, so let me tell you quickly about mine.
I accepted Christ as my Saviour in my late teens, was baptized and began my Christian journey.
Between that starting point and today, there was a time when I fell away, but thanks to the unfailing Grace and Mercy of God, I was forgiven and restored to the Body of Christ.
I have been married to Hilda for over 50 years, we have 3 adult children and 2 granddaughters.

I have been serving on the Board of Elders at Pineland for over 10 years, and for about 5 of those years to the present, I served as Moderator of the Elders Board.
The word ‘Chairman’ is also used, and that is probably more descriptive of what I do.
Essentially, all Elders must meet the Biblical definition of ‘Elder’, and in addition there are some specific requirements set out in the Church’s constitution.

As Moderator, I prepare the agenda for meetings, I try to maintain ‘balance’ at board meetings, ensuring that each and all points of view are aired.
I consult with and make recommendations to the Pastors as we try to discern what the Lord would have us do.

Without the support and prayers of the PBC membership, being Moderator would have been a difficult task, so for the support they have shown over the years, I am truly thankful.

David Knill

Vice-Moderator/Elder of Local Missions

My name is Dave and I serve a God who changed my life. I grew up in a liberal church but left in my teens. It was only when He opened my eyes to His Holiness and my sin and separation from Him, that I knew I was lost. This reality ultimately drove me to my knees in brokenness and confession before Him. Now I am one who lives in His grace and freedom through Christ. God has since blessed my family and He has enabled me to serve Him in many ways. Currently I serve as the elder of local outreach and as vice-moderator.

I, in partnership with the local outreach committee, seek out opportunities to participate and encourage our Pineland family to live as an ‘everyday church’ in our neighbourhoods, pointing people to Jesus. We participate in local evangelism through our GO team as well as facilitate outreach opportunities through local events. We also provide training and equipping through personal testimony courses and also help to support the community through local projects and missions.

Gerry Willard

Elder of Support

My name is Gerry, I came to know the LORD through a membership class when my family first sought out membership at Pineland in the late 80’s. Since that time I have learned to trust implicitly in His direction and have sought to use my God given talents in whatever capacity I can.

Ably assisted by the volunteer members of the Ministry of Support, I am responsible for the physical assets of Pineland Baptist Church. This encompasses, building maintenance, capital improvements, custodial services, groundskeeping, finances, giving etc. Preparation and administration of the annual budget is also our responsibility.

Tom Ryan

Elder of Global Missions

Keith Tsoi

Elder of Worship

Kevin Katzmann

My name is Kevin and I blessed to be married to Christina and have two boys, Curtis and Cameron. By the grace of God I am forgiven in Christ Jesus. Through a difficult time in my life God broke me over my sin and rebellion, drawing me to saving faith in Jesus. When I realized the truth of the Gospel everything changed. God has given me a passion for The Great Commission and to see people excited about Him. I am thankful to be a member of Pineland Baptist Church and enjoy serving in local outreach, and equiping others to do the same.
